Transmission Types ( Semi-Automatic )

Semi-Automatic is latest transmission technology which is going to be popular very fast recently eventhough it was first invented by Chrysler in 1941. Unlike other types, Semi-automatic has sophisticated structure and is quite expensive to build.

In Semi-Automatic gearboxes, gear ratios are same as manual gearboxes but instead of Clutch combination of sensors, processors and actuators to change the gear. Gear will be changed sequentially either by gear stick or two paddles which will be provided next to steering wheels.

Unlike Tiptronic which is lazy in changing gears and don't make sense of sportive car, semi-automatic are quite fast in changing gears (between 0.150 to 0.60 seconds depend on the type) and will be used on cars which performance is first factor. F1 cars, Ferrari latest cars and most of other supersports start to use semi-automatic instead of Manual gearboxes.

Perhaps one of the most advance type of these transmissions is Dual Clutch Gearboxes. In this type instead of one internal clutch helps to change the gears forward or backward, two clutches would do this duty. One clutch would take care of odd gears and the other one would works with even gears.

For example, when driver is on second gear the clutch which operate for number 1 and 3 will be ready to engage and depend on driver behaviour gearbox would guess next driver movement and would prepare the gear. So it take less time to disengage gear 2 and put gear 3 engaged instead of traditional disengage number two, choose the right gear and engage again.
